Sadly today, we ain't talkin' 'bout love. It has been reported that former Van Halen guitarist Steve Lukather has commented on the possible hiatus of Van Halen.
Steve said that "Eddie and Alex are sitting there laying back and they're waiting to see what happens next. I think they're on a hiatus. There's been some health issues that they're dealing with and stuff like that. We're older guys now, and to go on the road, and stuff like that, it requires a lot of extra effort in terms of as a human being... I'm not the guy to say anything." The now Toto guitarist went on to say "I love those brothers so much and we've always had a great relationship. I'm a big fan and also adore them as human beings."
Eddie Van Halen has not yet officially made a statement about his illness. We do know that he was diagnosed with cancer in early 2000's but did have surgery to remove the cancer, and has been cancer free since 2002.
Van Halen has been on multiple hiatuse's since the bands formation in 1972 with original band members Mark Stone (Bass), Eddie Van Halen (Lead Guitar, Vocals), Alex Van Halen (Drums). It wouldn't be until 1974 where the line up would change, and then again in 1974, 1985, 1996, 2003, 2005, 2006 & 2007.
The bands line up as of 2019 is: Eddie Van Halen, Alex Van Halen, David Lee Roth & Wolfgang Van Halen.
David Lee Roth also mentioned last month that he believes that Van Halen may be over. "It's been cancelled a number of times, and I think Van Halen's finished and this is the next phase. I've inherited the band de facto - whatever that means. Van Halen isn't going to be coming back in the fashion that you know. That being said Eddie Van Halen's got his own story to tell - it's not mine to tell."
We wish Eddie the best and hope he does have a speedy recovery.
